Westminster visit
Winners of the John Belk Memorial Essay Prize, Year 13 pupils, Angus Leong (Wargrave) and Jane Mullaney (Blackwater) recently enjoyed a visit to the Houses of Parliament to watch Prime Minister’s Questions (PMQs).
They enjoyed a personal tour of the Palace of Westminster and met Eastbourne MP, Caroline Ansell. During PMQs they witnessed a Theresa May defend her front bench in the light of a scathing attack by Leader of the Opposition, Jeremy Corbyn.
The John Belk Prize is given in memory of John Belk who was a teacher at the College for 22 years before his untimely death in 1946 at the age of 44. It is donated by Woodrow Wyatt, a former pupil at the College, who was influenced greatly by his teacher, John Belk.
Each year lower sixth pupils are invited to submit an essay giving an honest expression of the conditions that they think lead to a satisfying life.
