U18 nationals play-off
In a remarkable journey to have reached the top ten U18 girls hockey teams in the country, the U18 girls team took on Millfield in a National play-off at Beresford on 29 January 2015.
With a large home crowd to support the U18 girls, it was a thrilling match with excellent hockey from both sides. The College girls defended a sustained attack from Millfield and had little opportunity to counter attack in the first half as the opposition were highly skilled at closing them down. During the first half, Millfield broke through and the visiting team were 2–0 up at half time.
In the second half with the sky threatening to snow and the temperature dropping fast, the speed and tempo of the game increased. Undeterred the College girls fought back and the standard of hockey was superb. The College won several short corners but again the Millfield defence stood firm and the College girls couldn’t manage to find a way through. With end-to-end play the score remained unchanged at the final whistle but the College team should be incredibly proud of their performance.
Rob Hill, Director of Hockey at the College and their coach commented, “ The girls have worked incredibly hard throughout the season to reach this point and all credit to them. They have been a delight to coach and I am sure that with 11 of the squad back next year they will be even more determined to reach the National Final stages following today’s performance.”
