U18 girls though to hockey regionals
On Tuesday 15 October, the Eastbourne College U18 girls’ hockey team reached the Sussex U18 Finals for the thirteenth time in the last 15 years. They will once again represent Sussex in the regional heats in mid-November.
The College convincingly won their first three matches against Ardingly (3—1), Collyers College (1—0) and Worth School (3—0). They went through to the semi-final as group leaders to play Bedes, the runners-up in the second group. This proved to be an end-to-end battle that brought the best out in the defensive players and remained 0—0 at full time.
The penalty stroke barrage of five hinged upon two magnificent saves from Megan Radcliffe and the College players who put their strokes away. Polly Beale, Serena Harding and Hebe Williams scored their three and then Rachel Williams stepped up under tremendous pressure to seal the win with an exceptionally well taken shot.
The final was a much quieter affair where two early goals from the Hurstpierpoint College team settled the game and the tournament. The Eastbourne College team with the silver medal position, qualify for a place in the 2013 regional heats.
