Talk Education Award Finalist
We are proud to announce that Eastbourne College has secured a final spot in the coveted Talk Education Awards for Innovation in Education, in the Inspiring Sporting Activities category. The award recognises schools’ sporting achievements as well initiatives which encourage pupils to get out and be active.
Headmaster, Tom Lawson expressed his delight at the school’s nomination and said, “What a fantastic way to kickstart our academic year! We are delighted to have been named as a finalist in the prestigious Talk Education Awards. Eastbourne College prides itself on offering an all-inclusive programme of sport which is an integral part of life at the College. We strive for sporting excellence at the highest level, but enjoyment, health, opportunity, participation, support and wellbeing are at the heart of the sporting programme. These awards acknowledge pioneering schools that are surging ahead with ideas that are changing the face of independent education and we are absolutely delighted to have been recognised.”
With the benefit of its seaside location, Eastbourne College focuses on ‘blue health’ for healthy living and learning for its pupils and has recently introduced its ‘Mind Gym’ initiative. This scheme encourages pupils to be holistically and wholly healthy through personalised sessions which have a focus on their mental health for sport but for their wider life too. The initiative goes through ‘a self care toolbox’ which includes confidence, stress control, self-esteem, routine etc. Of course, the initiative is useful not just for sport but for pupils preparing for exams and situations throughout their lives to ensure that they are prepared to face whatever life throws at them and that they best and healthiest version of themselves.
The winners of the 2023 Talk Education Awards will be announced on 7 September 2023.
