Steeplechase 2013
Despite a wet and windy start to the day, the skies soon cleared to allow well over 500 school pupils and staff to compete in the annual Eastbourne College steeplechase on the South Downs and along the seafront.
There was an enthusiastic response from pupils, many of whom had been training hard over the previous few weeks. The finish was crowded with early finishers who stayed on to give tremendous support to the senior competitors as they completed their races. Collectively the runners easily managed to run from Land’s End to John O’Groats and back with many extra miles to spare!
Highlights of the day included a thrilling finish in the Intermediate Girls race which resulted in a tie between Bex Towey and Rosie Down and outstanding performances by Luke McWilton and Tori Black who each established extensive leads to win the Senior races. Craig House retained the overall Boys’ Cross Country Cup and School House was the worthy winner of the Girls’ House Competition.
