RSA project
Nine Eastbourne College pupils have recently been working on a collaborative project with two local businesses, Le Loup, and the Owl and Sewing Cat. The project was funded by a grant from the Royal Society for the encouragement of Arts, Manufacturing and Commerce.
Le Loup sells women’s clothing, children’s clothing and gifts for the whole family. The Owl and Sewing Cat specialises in the supply of exciting print and plain fabrics, sewing machines and a variety of trend-led trims including tapes and ric rac, bobbles, buttons and ribbons.
Each shop gave the pupils a design brief to follow with the aim that the work would create some exciting window displays for the Easter period. An example of one of the window displays can be seen here.
RSA Fellow Clive Bonny says “This is an innovative example of how a College can link with local businesses to give students practical skills in creative design and entrepreneurship. The RSA is delighted to support their creative flair which will build their experience and confidence in business. Eastbourne’s initiative should encourage others across the UK to follow in their footsteps.”
