Online safety talk
Last Friday, pupils from Year 9 and 10 attended a talk by Sharon Girling OBE. She delivered a thought provoking and extremely relevant talk on Online Safety and how young people’s online presence can define their offline lives. Her presentation included guidance on how to deal with incidents on the Internet, what to look out for as people engage in online gaming and an understanding of the rules of social networking.
Sharon is a former police officer who retired from the Child Exploitation and Online Exploitation Centre (CEOP) following thirty years’ service. She was at the forefront of a national and international response to online child abuse and developed the processes and procedures that led to the creation of CEOP. Sharon was awarded an OBE by Her Majesty the Queen for her services to policing.
