Marathon Des Sables
Two Old Eastbournians, Tom Evans and Edward Lewis, have both completed the 32nd Marathon Des Sables, widely acknowledged as the toughest race on earth.
It is an ultra-marathon of 156 miles across six days in 120 degree heat which takes place in the Sahara desert in Morocco. As the Marathon Des Sables website says, ‘You may struggle to explain to people why you would do this!’.
Tom, a captain in the Welsh Guards, finished in an incredible third place and has become the highest ranked Briton of all time, beating ex-Olympic rower James Cracknell’s 12th place in 2010.
