LTA Sussex Award for ‘School of the Year’
Eastbourne College has won the LTA Sussex Award for ‘School of the Year’ for 2022. The Award is in recognition of the tennis programme which aims, on a daily basis, to provide opportunities for a large number of pupils to train, compete and benefit from coaching from LTA Accredited Coaches.
This year, we made made a significant charity contribution to ‘Bright Ideas for Tennis’ – a GB based charity that looks to invest in the local area, providing tennis opportunities for clubs, schools and especially disabled players. At the end of January 2022, the College staged a 24 hour non stop tennis play event, raising funds. Over 100 pupils participated with each House group within the School being allocated a 2 hour slot to play on the school’s outdoor and indoor sports hall courts and receive coaching. There were games and raffles, together with other fund raising special events – nearly £5000 was raised and funds have been ploughed back into community projects in Eastbourne.
