Hockey heroics
It has been quite a week for girls’ hockey at Eastbourne College!
On Thursday 6 November the U14 girls team played in the Sussex U14
County Cup at Hurstpierpoint College. They won all four group matches – Ardingly (1–0), Brighton (2–0), Lancing (1–0) and Roedean (2–1) before beating St Leonards Mayfield 3–1 in the semi-finals.
In the final they met host team, Hurstpierpoint for a close match but the Eastbourne girls triumphed with an excellent 2-1 win to be rewarded with the U14 Sussex County Cup.
The previous day, the U16 girls hockey team had travelled to Epsom College to play in the group stage of the regionals. They beat Cranleigh 1–0 (goal from Katherine Williams), drew against Surbiton High 1–1 (goal from Jessica Lamb) and beat Leighton Park 7–0 (with goals from Eleanor Casselden (1), Charlotte Giles (1), Romney Hole (1), Jessica Lamb (2) and Hannah Legg (2). The team now progresses to the quarter finals of the regionals – date and venue to be advised.
Finally, on the same day as the U14 tournament, the College U18 girls team travelled to Cranleigh for the group stages of the regionals. They won both of their first two matches convincingly (3–1 and 3–0). In the final game, with fading light they lost 4–0 to Cranleigh. However as runners-up in their group, they now progress to the quarter finals of the regionals on Wednesday 19 November at Kingston Grammar School, 2.30pm.
