Gold medal
Congratulations to Spike Gleave who took part in the recent English Schools Combined Events national finals held at the Princess Royal Athletics Arena, Lincolnshire. This was a pentathlon for U15s consisting of five events and Spike was competing as part of a team of four boys representing the South of England. The boys also competed Individually among the 45 competitors and Spike finished an impressive seventh overall with Sussex winning the team title for the first ever time in this national event. Spike managed three personal bests from five of his events, a superb effort under pressure. While Spike was disappointed to narrowly miss out on the top four (who will go on to compete internationally for England) the experience gained was invaluable as he looks towards the octathlon next year.
