Foundation stone
Oh Happy Day! Foundation stone milestone reached and the sun shone too as David Winn OBE (Old Eastbournian, the son, father and grandfather of Old Eastbournians, and the College’s most generous benefactor) accepted a beautifully engraved silver trowel from the contractors, VINCI. With it he ceremoniously tapped the Project 150 foundation stone laid in recognition of everything David has done for his school and to mark Project 150’s rise from the ground. It is hard to believe that in under two years the school will be occupying all 10,500 square metres of this £33 million development and that before the end of this year will be using the new classroom block and pavilion.
Present for this momentous occasion were the Chairman of Governors, Sir Kevin O’Donoghue, and other governors who were able to join the Headmaster and Heads of School in thanking VINCI and our architects, Miller Bourne, for their work to date. It was also an opportunity to thank a number of major donors to the ongoing appeal and the College team and others who have invested so much enthusiasm, vision and hard work in the College’s future and brought Project 150 to this point. Thanks and praise were also given to those whose meticulous planning has enabled the College operation to continue seamlessly throughout the build phase.
