England Hockey development
Two Eastbourne College boys have recently been selected for England Hockey youth development programmes.
Ben Fox (Year 10 Wargrave), has been confirmed as a member of the England Hockey U16 NAGS (National Age Group Squad) training squad for 2016-17.
The NAGS environment provides players with their first taste of international training camps and tournaments. Involvement on the prograrmme will expose Ben to a series of 'best versus best' training days, training camps and international competition. In addition, he will also have access to a series of regionally delivered training and competition dates via his allocated Performance Centres.
Through NAGS, players have access to experienced coaching and management teams including a squad physiotherapist. Players will receive coaching from practitioners working with the English Institute of Sport and the England Hockey seniors squads, bringing a connected approach to the education of good nutritional habits and strength and conditioning advice appropriate for developing hockey players.
Charlie Edwards (Year 12 Craig) has been selected for the England Hockey U17s Advanced Apprenticeship in Sport (AASE).
This programme is a government funded apprenticeship scheme designed to directly measure the athletes’ ability to plan, apply and evaluate their development in the appropriate aspects of hockey. The AASE programme covers a range of modules, including nutrition, psychology, strength and conditioning, media and communication skills, and career development. Upon completion of AASE, athletes will receive NVQ certification and 85 UCAS points.
