Eastbourne College Hosts Olympic-Level Swimming Clinic with World-Class Coaches
Eastbourne College recently hosted an exclusive training clinic on 27 February, further enhancing our growing reputation in competitive swimming. Elite swimmers from St Andrew’s Prep and Eastbourne Swimming Club, alongside our own top athletes, had the opportunity to train with some of the best coaches in the field.
Led by Mel Marshall, coach of Olympic champion Adam Peaty, the clinic provided a wealth of experience and inspiration. Joining remotely from Australia, Mel shared her expertise and motivated our swimmers to elevate their performance. The event also featured pool sessions and a tailored nutrition workshop to support overall athletic development.
Our on-site coaching team included Grant Turner, London 2012 Olympian; Ian Hulme, former international swimmer; performance nutritionist Tiff Williams; Suzanne Gumbrell, Scottish Swimming’s 2023 Development Coach of the Year; and Megan Moss, former national swimmer and MMSI Head of Operations.
Eastbourne College is proud to be leading the Schools Super League in the South East, currently seeded one for the finals next month. Our swimmers have also recently achieved outstanding success, winning 11 gold, 6 silver, and 9 bronze medals at the Independent Schools Individual National Finals and securing relay titles at the Independent Small Schools Championships.
This clinic is a reflection of our commitment and facilities. As Mike Harrison, Director of Sport, said, “The clinic reinforces our position as a leading independent school for sport and will undoubtedly inspire and challenge our athletes.”
Head of Swimming, Jess Simmonds, added, “We focus on a holistic approach to athlete development, balancing peak performance with mental and physical well-being for long-term success.”
