DT on the beach
A group of Eastbourne College AS design students are currently working on a project to develop a prosthetic leg for a windsurfer.
As part of the their research the students took a windsurfing lesson to get a better understanding of the problems associated with mastering the sport. Jim Regan, a prosthetic designer, met the group at the watersports centre to highlight areas that need to be considered and to help define the design brief.
Mr Regan will act as a mentor to the group throughout the year giving feedback at certain crucial stages. Josh, the windsurfing instructor, gave a demonstration of the techniques required for getting into the prone and sailing positions and moving around the board. The students then enjoyed a session on the sea to put into practice what had just been described.
