County champions again
The College has maintained its superb record at U18 county level with Eastbourne College reclaiming the Sussex U18 Girls hockey title after beating Brighton College 2-1 in the final at Christ’s Hospital yesterday. In the past eight years, the Eastbourne U18 girls hockey team has played in consecutive finals and have won four titles over that time period.
Yesterday the squad played nearly two and half hours of tournament hockey winning all six matches. They won through in their group by beating Brighton (1-0), Lancing (3-1), Christ’s Hospital (3-0) and Mayfield (3-0). The semi-final against Bede’s was Eastbourne’s best display. However, despite hitting the post and creating lots of chances, the game ended 1-1. Eastbourne scored all four of their flicks and Tilly Crane made two great saves to send Eastbourne into the final v Brighton College who also won through on penalty flicks v Ardingly. Eastbourne went 2-0 up thanks to two well taken penalty corner goals from Izzy McIntosh, with Brighton scoring three minutes from the end. It was a superb team effort.
