Chilean visitors
The College was delighted to host a large group of boys and girls this week from Craighouse School in Santiago, Chile.
The Chilean visitors were in the UK for a sports tour and had been playing hockey and rugby matches at various independent schools over the last few weeks.
The Craighouse girls met the College hockey 1st team in a stunning match at Beresford on Tuesday 23 September. It was a thrilling end-to-end game where both teams took every opportunity to gain the advantage. The Eastbourne girls produced some superb hockey against a very strong Craighouse team that included six girls who play for the Chilean national team! The match ended in a very fair score of 4-3 to the visitors.
Meanwhile, the College 1st XV rugby team were locking horns with the Craighouse boys on College Field. The visiting team arrived with an unbeaten sports tour record and proceeded to demonstrate their well-honed skills, strength and agility. Most of the Chilean team were already 18 years old and had been playing together for a considerable time. The Eastbourne boys put up a fine performance but in the end lost to the stronger side.
Both matches were played with an excellent sense of sportsmanship and thoroughly enjoyed by players and spectators alike.
