Buckingham Palace invitation
On Monday 16 May, Dan Tebay, Duke of Edinburgh Award Centre Manager for Eastbourne College attended the 2016 D of E Gold Award presentations in the gardens of Buckingham Palace. He was accompanied by former pupil and Gold Award recipient Padrick Bloor and Wargrave House matron Paula Thorpe.
This annual event, which usually takes at St James’ Palace, London, was this year relocated to Buckingham Palace to celebrate the diamond anniversary of the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme. The presentations took place in the presence of HRH The Duke of Edinburgh KG KT, HRH The Earl of Wessex KG GCVO and HRH The Countess of Wessex GCVO.
The awards for the East/West Sussex and Brighton and Hove region were presented by comedian and impressionist Alistair McGowan. After the formal introductions Mr McGowan spoke to the guests and treated them a few of his famous impressions.
In addition to presenting certificates to the Gold Award recipients, Mr McGowan presented Mr Tebay with a plaque for the College which recognises its special status as a D of E Licensed Organisation. Following the presentations, the Earl of Wessex spoke with many of the award winners and their supporters.
