Best in Sussex
Offical Government Performance tables published in January 2013 confirm that a greater percentage of pupils at Eastbourne College fulfilled the English Baccalaureate (EBacc) in 2012 than at any other school in East or West Sussex local authority areas.
The EBacc, introduced by Education Secretary Michael Gove in 2010, measures the number of pupils achieving top grades in the subjects which are favoured by the Russell Group of elite UK universities. These include maths, English, science, humanities and languages.
Eastbourne College was also the highest ranked school in East Sussex at GCSE, with a reported 93% of pupils achieving 5 or more GCSEs at grades A*–C. Additionally, almost every pupil taking GCSEs in 2012 gained 8 or more GCSEs at A*–C and more than 97% of all the GCSEs taken by this exam cohort were awarded these grades.
