Bath Cup success March 2013
On Friday 8 March, twelve swimmers from the College took part in the National Independent Schools’ Relay Competition – the Bath Cup. This prestigious open age group event was attended by more than sixty five independent schools from across the UK.
The girls’ team (Hannah Manton, Celia Gray, Dollie Wilson and Amy Keating) opened the event with the freestyle relay. They put in some formidable performances and finished in 23rd place. The boys (Luke Howard, Josh Pankhurst, Luke Stacey and George Brassett) followed with a solid performance, finishing in 10th place.
After lunch the girls took to the blocks once again for the medley relay. Hannah and Dolly were joined by Millie Harriott and Thivya Kularajan and with several new personal best times, finished in 11th place.
The boys returned to the pool and this time Josh, Alex Goble, Monty Wilson and Luke Stacey were feeling particularly strong and went into the finals as fastest qualifiers. Following a punishing race in which the leading place alternated regularly between several schools, Luke was able to claw back the extra metres required in the final length to win the Dunelm Trophy by just a few hundredths of a second.
This is the second time in five years that an Eastbourne College team has won this coveted trophy. A remarkable performance!
