Ashburnham English Song Awards

Last week, Eastbourne College’s Harry S was awarded the prestigious Audience Prize at the final of the Ashburnham English Song Award, a highly anticipated competition showcasing the talents of nine exceptional young singers from local schools.

Throughout the event, each singer performed two pieces, displaying a range of vocal styles and techniques. Harry’s performances, clearly impressed the audience, earning him their vote for the coveted Audience Prize. The judges—renowned figures from the world of opera, including Catherine Wyn-Rogers (Royal Opera House, Covent Garden), Paul Nilon (Opera North, English National Opera), and Ashley Beauchamp (Musical Director of the Glyndebourne Youth Opera)—were on hand to present the award, which Harry is pictured receiving here.

Alice C, also delivered a stellar performance in the final. Alice showcased her extraordinary vocal talent, giving a powerful and emotive rendition of her two selected pieces. As Old Androvians, both Harry and Alice have continued to build on the solid foundation they developed during their time at St Andrew’s Prep. Their achievements at the Ashburnham English Song Award are a testament to their ongoing commitment to music and their remarkable potential as young vocalists.

We are incredibly proud of both Harry and Alice for their achievements and look forward to seeing where their musical journeys take them next. Congratulations to both of them on their outstanding performances, and well done to all the talented competitors.
