Academic challenge
On Tuesday 24 June the sun shone brightly as 72 Year 6 pupils from nine prep and junior schools arrived at the College to take part in the 2014 Academic Challenge Day. The participating schools were Bedes, Cumnor House Dulwich Prep School, St Andrew’s Prep, St John’s Meads, St Thomas a Becket, Tollgate, Vinehall and Willingdon.
On arrival they were welcomed to the College by Headmaster, Simon Davies, before embarking on a series of fun ice-breaker and team-building activities on College Field. During the day the visiting children each enjoyed the following four academic challenge sessions:
English – Freakish Fairy Tales
Maths – Fractals
Modern Languages – Fun with German
Science – Rockets and Spin, DNA Fingerprinting or Rapid Reactions
At the end of the day many parents enjoyed tea in the Birley Centre before collecting their tired but excited children – all still buzzing with the day’s challenegs. Everyone had a great time – visiting pupils, visiting staff and the College team who ran the various activities.
