Year 9 ENTRY
Our Admissions Procedure and Policy Booklet will provide you with all the information you need when considering entry for your child to Eastbourne College but if you have any queries, please do not hesitate to contact us. We would be delighted to speak to you.
The first step to secure a Year 9 place for your child is Registration. This can be completed for a child of any age, though we recommend you register by Year 5 or Year 6 once you have attended an Open Morning. By doing so, you will be able to take advantage of our Early Offer process which will enable you to secure a place from December of Year 6 for entry into Year 9. It will also give you priority for your choice of house, peace of mind that the place is secure … and plenty of time to get ready!
Offers for a place into Year 9 are made to pupils (in Years 6 to 8) on receipt of a satisfactory reference from their Headteacher. The reference should include data showing academic ability. A meeting between the College and the prospective pupil will also take place as part of the process. Results from Common Entrance, baccalaureates, bridge curriculum (exclusive to St Andrew’s Prep, Eastbourne) diplomas or equivalent, will be required in Year 8 and will be used to aid setting in core Year 9 subjects.
For prospective pupils who attend a school where Common Entrance, Prep School Baccalaureate or a home-grown equivalent is not available, the College will determine suitable academic ability tests to be sat in Year 8. The tests are likely include English, Maths, Science and a Foreign Language paper.
For those families who enquire after the Early Offer process, the same admissions process applies, excluding the timings.
Confirming acceptance
To accept an offer, you will be asked to complete a Guaranteed Place Form. The form should be returned to the College with payment of the relevant deposit by the offer expiry date. This will confirm your child’s place at the College, subject to achieving expected performance in entrance exams or tests.
The deposit is used against any final extras incurred during the last term at the College. The balance of any deposit is credited to the final account when the pupil leaves the College.
Entrance assessment
To finalise entrance requirements, applicants for entry in Year 9 in September who have been appropriately prepared and who have registered with Eastbourne College will sit either the ISEB Common Academic Scholarship Examination (May), Common Entrance Examination (June) or an equivalent set of examinations.
Applications for pupils with mild to moderate learning support requirements are considered. Further information may be requested to ensure that the College can meet their needs.
