House singing competition 2016
The inaugural House Singing Competition took place in the Floral Hall of the Winter Garden on the 19th October.
All eleven houses performed a song of their choice accompanied by a staff band. The houses led by their chosen sixth form pupils, had spent the first half of term learning and rehearsing under the watchful eyes and ears of their HsMS and the weeks of preparation culminated in a fantastic hour of pop and rock. Classics ranging from Stand By Me to Superstition were performed with gusto and energy with all pupils properly entering into the spirit of the event.
The adjudicator, Mr Dan Ludford Thomas – Head of Singing at Dulwich College – had the tough task of picking a winning boys and girls house before deciding on one of those as the overall winner.
After some useful and amusing feedback on all the performances, the results were announced as follows; Blackwater won the girls trophy with a vigorous version of Abba’s Mamma Mia, Wargrave the boys, with a beguiling rendition of Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah.
Blackwater was then crowned overall champions to the inevitable delight of their Housemistress, tutors and girls! Trophies were presented by the Headmaster and the whole event was superbly compered by Mr Marriott.
