CCF RAF visit Radley College
On Sunday 24 April, the RAF section of the Eastbourne College CCF joined their counterparts at Radley College, Abingdon School and Abingdon town Air Training Corps (ATC) for the 75th anniversary of the establishment of 1056 Squadron, the founding unit of all these units. Eastbourne College had been been evacuated to Radley during the war years and its pupils constituted one the flights of this original squadron.
The celebrations began with a formal parade and inspection by Air Marshal North, who was clearly impressed by the turn out and enthusiasm of the cadets. He spoke of his recognition of their sense of service and duty, of the importance of working together for a greater good, and of the role of all the cadets present to shape a better future. Following a march past, accompanied by the CCF band of Radley College, cadets and spectators moved to the chapel for a service of thanksgiving and reunion, with a sermon from the Chaplain to the ATC. The day concluded with a stylish garden tea party.
