CCF Range Day
Hail, wind, a periodic watery sun, the four horses of the apocalypse….. nothing was going to dent the enthusiasm of the 22 cadets and eight staff who ventured to Lydd Army Ranges on Wednesday 2 March for a day of live firing of the Cadet GP rifle.
The cadets came from all three sections of the College CCF and it was a voluntary event. Each one had been working on passing their weapons handling test in the weeks prior and on Wednesday were able to put their newly-honed skills to good use. They engaged targets on one of the Army's state-of-the-art electronic target ranges (ETR) where 'pop-up' targets would fall when hit out at 100m, 200m and 300m ranges.
Cadet Cpl Tom Alston achieved the singular title of downing all targets out to 300m in conditions that can only be described as gusting to gale force.
Well done to all who took part.
