Tennis success
The Eastbourne College senior tennis team has reached the National Schools’ Final of the LTA Senior Student Mixed Doubles Competition after defeating Bede’s 4-0 in a regional play off.
The match was played on Monday 29 February on the indoor courts of the David Lloyd Centre in Eastbourne, a venue where the top tennis players at Eastbourne College train over the winter months.
The College team – Phoebe Gale, Natasha Gale, Harry Lloyd and Ivan Loginov – have shown tremendous determination and support for each other throughout every stage of the competition. They have won a number of rounds to reach this stage, and their emphatic win against Bede’s follows hard-fought victories in the later stages of the tournament away from home against Ashford School, Highworth Grammar School and Lancing College.
The team will travel to the Bolton Arena over the weekend of 12 and 13 March where they will play other finalists from all over Great Britain.
Simon Gent, master-in-charge of tennis at the College, commented, “We are delighted with the progress of our senior team. They have trained hard and well deserve their place in the National Final. Spirits are high as they aim to represent Eastbourne College and the town, keeping alive the excitement of Johanna Konta and her successes so far in 2016!”
