Christmas markets
At the start of the Christmas holidays, ten Year 10 and 11 pupils who are studying GCSE German left Eastbourne in the early hours of the morning to fly to to Hamburg to bring their language-learning to life and to experience something of the best of Germany’s cultural traditions – the Christmas markets. They were accompanied by German teachers Miss Burford and Mr Ruskin.
In addition to plenty of time wandering, shopping and eating in the many (and very different) markets, pupils also enjoyed a boat tour of Hamburg’s harbour, a hearty meal in a traditional German restaurant, a visit to the world’s largest miniature world, and a day trip to Lubeck – the home of marzipan.
The youth hostel in the city centre provided excellent accommodation for two nights and all returned very happy, laden with presents, and a little heavier for the experience!
