Sussex hockey champions
On Tuesday 3 November, the Eastbourne College U14 girls hockey team beat Burgess Hill 3–1 on penalty strokes in the final to win the 2015 Sussex Hockey U14 title
The girls won every group match, beating teams from Bedes, Burgess Hill, Christ’s Hospital, Farlington, and St Leonards Mayfields to take them through to the semi-finals against Brighton College. A superb individual goal from Flo Ferrari and a great save from keeper Georgie Brown saw the girls through to the final against Burgess Hill who had beaten Ardingly in the other semi-final.
Whilst the Eastbourne College team had beaten Burgess Hill narrowly in a tough group match, the final was slightly more one-sided with Eastbourne dominating the game but not being able to capitalise on their possession and convert the chances they created. The game ended 0–0 and penalty flicks were used to decide the result. Georgie Brown made three great saves and Beth Hawkins, Eliza Reynolds and Riley Wootten scored their flicks to seal the title 3–1.
This was a superb ‘whole squad’ effort throughout a long day with over two hours of competitive match play hockey.
The squad: Ella Lloyd – Captain; Jess Ashdown, Georgie Brown, Imogen Carr, Flo Ferrari, Beth Hawkins, Ella Hemming, Mirabelle Kelly, Rachel Kinchin, Sasha Marlow, Harriet Morss-Davies, Eliza Reynolds, Polly Wagenmann, Aimee Wood and Riley Wootton.
