2020 Vision Conference
On Friday 9 October an audience of 50 headteachers from a range of schools attended a Head’s Conference at Eastbourne College. Entitled 2020 Vision, the aim of the one-day event was to share ideas on how best to prepare young people for a rapidly changing world.
The conference was chaired by Alison Saunders, Director of Public Prosecutions. Speakers included Jo Fairley, founder of Green & Black’s chocolate and David Hoare, Chair of Ofsted and himself a leading business figure who has chaired a number of companies including Laura Ashley.
Other speakers were Dr James Bellini, futurologist and former presenter of Panorama and The Money Programme; Dr Gary McKay, NASA; Nigel Redman, former Bath, England and British Lions and now Elite Coach Development Manager for British Swimming; Nick Collier, Global Head of Government Affairs Thomson Reuters; and Alison Morris, Assistant Director UK Commission for Employment and Skills.
At the end of the day a panel of four headteachers and a small group of Eastbourne College sixth form pupils commented on what they felt they had gained from the conference.
The event was kindly sponsored by caterers, Holroyd Howe and architects, Miller Bourne.
After the conference a paper was prepared to highlight the key ideas that were identified and discussed. A copy is available here:
