Webb Ellis Trophy September 2015
On Wednesday 2 September rugby’s greatest prize, the Webb Ellis Cup, visited Eastbourne College as part of the Rugby World Cup Trophy Tour. Pupils, their families, staff members and many local residents took the opportunity to view the cup at close quarters and have their photograph taken with this iconic trophy.
The Rugby World Cup Trophy Tour launched on June 10, one hundred days before the opening match and is travelling through Scotland, Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland and Wales, and many parts of England before arriving at Twickenham Stadium on September 18 ahead of the Opening Ceremony.
Rugby is at the heart of the Trophy Tour engaging with over one hundred rugby clubs, organisations and rugby festivals, from grassroots to elite. In addition Host Cities, Match Venues, community and legacy programmes, sports events, stakeholder visits, Worldwide Partner activations and iconic landmarks feature as part of the Trophy Tour with over three hundred events programmed across the one-hundred-day continuous tour.
With less than a month to go, the Rugby World Cup Trophy Tour across the UK and Ireland has already created hundreds of opportunities for fans to see the Webb Ellis Cup and tell their rugby story as they countdown to their own Tournament experience.
Eastbourne College Headmaster Simon Davies said: ‘We are tremendously excited to have been part of the Webb Ellis Trophy Tour. As a Team Base, along with the University of Brighton, we are proud to bring Rugby World Cup 2015 to the whole town of Eastbourne and and by welcoming the Trophy it really brought home that the Tournament is just around the corner. We are delighted that so many of the local community came along to see the Trophy and fuelled the excitement about the upcoming Tournament.’
