Sussex champions Oct 2014
On Tuesday 14 October the College U18 girls played in the Sussex Hockey Tournament at Beresford and Summerdown. With only 12 minutes each way for every match, the pressure was certainly on the team to score quickly and keep up the momentum.
In the group stages, Eastbourne was drawn against teams from Brighton College, Burgess Hill, Christ’s Hospital, and Lancing College. The Eastbourne girls beat Brighton College 2–0 (goals from Natasha Gale, Holly Goble) before beating Burgess Hill 1–0 (goal scorer Natasha Gale). They played Christ’s Hospital winning 3–0 (with goals from Natasha Gale, Holly Goble, and Georgina Moore) before securing an emphatic 4–0 win against Lancing College (goals from Natasha Gale, Molly Reynolds and two from Alice Walker).
Having won every game in their group, Eastbourne met Worth in one of the semi-finals. It was a very tight match with Worth scoring first and then Eastbourne equalising in the second half. With a draw at the end, the game went to penalty flicks. Superb goal keeping by Rebecca O’Dwyer saved two of Worth’s flicks and successful shots from Polly Beale, Phoebe Gale, and Hebe Williams coolly put the College into the final.
In the final, they played Christ’s Hospital again (who had beaten Hurstpierpoint in the other semi-final). The standard of hockey from both sides was excellent and it was end-to-end with the score line changing frequently over the 24 minutes. The College earned a well-deserved victory winning 3–2 with goals from Natasha Gale, Holly Goble and Hebe Williams. The team now progresses to the Regional qualifiers on Thursday 6 November at Cranleigh School.
