College swimmers excel
Despite a number of injuries amongst team members, the Eastbourne College swimmers performed well above expectations at the recent ESSA National Schools regional heats.
A total of 14 personal bests were broken. Most notable were the junior boys team, (Jack Casebourne, Kieran Cheney, Euan McGreevy, Louis Woody) where all four swimmers broke their freestyle PBs and the intermediate boys (Tom Alston, George Brassett, Will McNeilly, Ghazali Owasil and Luke Stacey), who had three swimmers break PBs.
The girls also did extremely well with seven new PBs of their own. Rebe Casselden excelled in her breaststroke and freestyle swims beating her previous PB by an incredible four seconds. Claire Day achieved a similar feat in her freestyle race.
The junior boys won two sets of silver medals, and the intermediate boys were crowned Double Regional Champions for both relays, with winning times that were easily clear of those recorded by senior teams at the same event. The senior girls (Celia gray, Millie Harriott, Hannah Manton, Maddie Thorpe and Dollie Wilson) added to the College medal haul by winning bronze in the freestyle event.
The swimmers are waiting to learn whether their times will be good enough to secure them places at the National Schools Finals.
