Eastbourne College pupils celebrate A-level results with one in three achieving A*-A across all subjects
Pupils at Eastbourne College are celebrating excellent A-level results today with over half of all grades awarded at A* or A.
It is the school’s best ever performance by this measure for all years where exams were sat in person, with 55 per cent of grades achieved at A* or A, up by 16 percentage points compared with 2019, before the pandemic.
78 per cent of grades were awarded at A* – B, up by almost ten percentage points compared with 2019 grades, when pupils last sat exams formally.
Pupils at the school take A-level qualifications only and there was a 100 per cent pass rate, with some of the highest grades achieved across the STEM subjects, including Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Physics and Economics.
Almost one in three pupils achieved an A* or A grade in all their A-level subjects, with four young people going on to read degrees at Oxford and Cambridge this year (including Nasim pictured above).
Headmaster Tom Lawson said: “Our target this year was to maintain under exam conditions the 80 per cent of A*-B grades at A-level that were achieved under the self-awarding system of the last two years, when the candidates had advance notice of the question areas and no exam hall pressure.
“We are delighted to be so close to our target and it is impressive to see a cohort of pupils who have never faced public exam pressure show such resilience. This year’s set of results also show that our teacher assessed grades of the last two years were fair.
“I’m thrilled that academic achievement at the College continues to move to an even higher level and would like to congratulate all our hardworking pupils and the tremendous efforts of their teachers.”.
