Environmental champions
Eastbourne College’s entry to the Co-operative’s Green Schools Revolution competition won the coveted regional prize, securing £1000 of funding for future projects aimed at improving the environmental awareness within and beyond the school community. This impressive achievement was the result of twelve months of green initiatives undertaken by staff and pupils at the College.
A group of 6th form students including Madeleine Mann, Serena Venables, Sine Duncan, Joe Leale-Green, Felix Arnold, Niklas Breitzmann, Jess Glasser and Helen McAll were instrumental in devising and implementing a range of initiatives to improve student and staff attitudes and behaviour towards the environment.
The Big OFF, an inter-house competition to reduce energy consumption was a huge success and will return again in the near future. (Please see separate news report). Supported by the students, the geography department and the members of the college Environmental Committee (EC3), the school continues to meet its obligation to educate all students about the importance of ensuring that we strive to live in a more environmentally sustainable way.
