Shooting star
The Imperial Meeting is the most prestigious of the shooting competitions held each year by the National Rifle Association (NRA). The Meeting is comprised of a series of competitions including Service Rifle, Civilian Service Rifle, Cadets, Historic Arms, Schools, Gallery Rifle and Pistol, Match Rifle and Target Rifle.
Rachel Williams, Year 12 Watt and a member of Eastbourne College CCF, has been selected by the Council for Cadet Rifle Shooting to take part in this competition. CCRS was formed in 1969 through the amalgamation of three previous organisations – the Imperial Cadet Association, the Public Schools Rifle Matches Association, and the Committee responsible for organising the Inter-Service Cadet Rifle Meeting. In addition to arranging and administering shooting competitions, coaching courses and other shooting events for cadets at schools and units in the Commonwealth, CCRS also provides administrative support for cadet teams selected to represent Great Britain in National and International matches, both at home and overseas.
Rachel has been selected by the CCRS to receive first year sponsorship to assist in her competing in this year’s Imperial Meeting. Over the course of the week long series of shoots held at Bisley she will take part in no less than eleven 7.62 target rifle shoots.
This is a real show of faith by the CCRS. Rachel has been shooting small bore at the College for two years under the careful tutelage of 2nd Lt Robin Holding (Eastbourne College CCF Shooting Officer) and this will be her first foray into the world of 7.62 target rifle shooting. We are absolutely delighted for her and wish her the very best of luck.
