Fives 1st team sweep the board
The South-East Regional Rugby Fives Competition is contested each year between St. Dunstan’s, Whitgift School, Christ’s Hospital, Tonbridge, Sutton Valence and Eastbourne College. This year the Eastbourne 1st IV enjoyed a double success – winning both the senior singles and senior doubles titles.
In the singles competition Chay Kent, Jo Tickle and Philip Teterin all won their groups thereby securing three of the four semi-finalist positions for Eastbourne. Chay went on to meet last year’s singles winner in the final. A hard fought match resulted in a superb win for Chay and Eastbourne College.
In the doubles competition, the Eastbourne 1st pair, Chay Kent and Dominic Barnes, met Tonbridge in the final. The first game went to Eastbourne 11–7, but Tonbridge fought back strongly in the second game, pushing Eastbourne all the way. However, Chay and Dominic rose to the challenge and went on to win their second cup of the day by securing the second game 12–11.
In addition to these successes, the College 1st IV have won all their school matches so far this term.
