For the fourth year in succession, a group of College pupils and staff travelled to South Africa during the October half-term holiday to take part in a community project. This year nine girls and three members of staff took part in this trip.
The group stayed at a traditional Zulu homestead for five nights, followed by three days on safari. During their stay at the Zulu village their time was split between teaching in the local primary school and helping with various projects designed to help the residents of the village.
In the mornings the girls had the opportunity to teach and get to know some of the pupils at the primary school. The afternoons consisted of netball coaching (leading up to a match against the pupils on the last day), fencing the new vegetable patch, piping water down to it and also building a new jungle-gym for the children of the village. These tasks were all successfully completed thanks to the team from African Insight and superb teamwork from the Eastbourne girls.
The final part of the trip was spent on safari in the Tembe Elephant Reserve where the girls had the opportunity to relax a little after their hard work. Everyone enjoyed both the time with the Zulu community and the safari.
