An active and wide-ranging programme
Art is an important part of everyday life at the College and there are many opportunities to explore new skills.

The Art School is open for recreational activities on weekday afternoons, evenings and some Sunday afternoons, and there are also regular displays of the work of both pupils and professional artists in the Birley Centre. Recent Projects and Work
Bourne Beautiful
London photographer Alistair Guy presented the ‘Bourne Beautiful’ exhibition at the College, a series of black and white photographs of members of the College community that were taken last Michaelmas term. Shot within the College within six hours, and using natural light, the exhibition aims to celebrate diversity within the community and promote feelings of self-empowerment and self-worth.
New York Trip, February 2019
During the February half term, 26 creative arts pupils from the sixth form went to New York to visit many of the sites, museums and shows that the city has to offer. The four-day trip was packed with cultural highlights: a visit to the Broadway Musical, an interactive visit to the Cooper Hewitt Design museum, MoMA, the Guggenheim, a Radio City Tour, the Empire State Building, 9/11 Memorial, and many more. All pupils had an action-packed adventure, enjoying so much in such a short space of time.
Ceramics Excellence Award 2019
Rachel Kinchin has won this year’s Cardiff School of Art and Design (CSAD) Ceramics Excellence Award, sponsored by Potclays, for the under 16 category.

Young Craftsman of the Year Ceramic Winners
Year 11 pupils, Charlotte Chatterton and Cole Warren, won awards for their ceramic work at the Young Craftsman of the Year Competition at the South of England Show.
Draw Me In
Erin Banks and other Lower Sixth art scholars Imogen Carr, Sasha Marlow and Olivia Wood exhibited their work as part of the Draw Me In exhibition at the Towner Art Gallery.
Erin Banks was selected to complete 20 illustrations for a historical novel presented for publication to national agencies.
Eleanor Long curated ‘From Chapel Windows to the Art of Protest’ as part of her Gold Arts Award incorporating work by Libby Carpenter and Tess Donnelly.
Photography Competition
James Zhou, in the junior category, and Max Faulkner-Bryant, in the senior category, won the 2019 whole-school Photography Exhibition.
