Cheltenham Literature Festival 2019
This weekend the English Department took a group of sixth form pupils to Cheltenham for the annual Literature Festival. With a packed programme of talks by a huge range of writers and thinkers, pupils were entertained and challenged in equal measure. Speakers they heard included Elif Shafak, Richard Dawkins, Max Porter, James O’Brien, Sebastian Faulks, Erin Kelly, Denise Mina, Oyinkan Braithwaite and Celeste Ng, as well as a fascinating tribute to Toni Morrison. With time for browsing in the bookshops and plenty of opportunities for sharing food, drinks and spirited discussion, this was the perfect cultural excursion.
