2012 GCSE results
Pupils and staff at Eastbourne College are celebrating excellent GCSE results. The 112 Year 11 pupils scored 98% A*–C (58% A or A*), with 66 pupils of this year’s cohort notching up five or more As or A*s. Over 25% of grades awarded were A*.
Fourteen pupils achieved at least 8A*s, with top student Sophie Hatrick gaining a clean sweep of 12 A* grades. Close behind Sophie are Eleanor Wicks (11A*, 2A), Archie Meikle (10A*, 3A), Eleanor Turnbull (10A*, 2A) and Stephen Burchett (10A*, 2A, 1B). Jessica Barnes, Daniel Carr, Kate Corfield, Tammy Tam and Oliver Wright all achieved 9A* grades or better. Overall, 28 College pupils gained ten or more A* or As at GCSE.
Of the 31 GCSEs taken a year early by 24 Year 10 pupils, 28 were awarded an A* grade.
Headmaster Simon Davies is justly proud of the achievements of pupils overall: ‘I am delighted that the College is celebrating yet again a superb set of results and I offer my congratulations to all those – pupils and teachers – whose hard work and dedication have made these results possible. The headline figure is lower than last year’s but the individuals in this year group have performed very strongly against their underlying ability. This so-called ‘value added’ is something that league tables do not show, which is why Eastbourne College does not take part in them.’
